Why you should start dressing up

Gorgeous! Appreciate yourself! Take pride in the way you look.

Did you know people make an immediate judgement of you in less than half a second?

You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression.

Will Rogers

People are too casual nowadays. It is okay to be dressed casually in the time and place that this is appropriate, however not putting any effort at all is a different story. I personally like to have my casual clothes be a little bit more dressed up to elevate the experience for everyone, but that’s just me. I know, I’m so considerate haha just kidding. I really do love dressing up.

But have you ever been to the opera, or a wedding, or any type of beautiful event where you saw a person looking out of place wearing jeans or dressed down somehow? It is the social equivalent of wearing a bikini to a business meeting in corporate America. In other words, you cheapen the experience for others when you don’t dress up and it looks bad.

It doesn’t hurt to have an extra tie in your car just in case, or a backup pair of stilettos as I do that go with every outfit, because you never know! I love being prepared and even have some extra makeup and hair ties in my car just in case. Not to mention my purse being equipped with the ultimate hair brushing emergency kit.

There are so many reasons why you should dress up everyday and I am the first person to tell you.

  1. You feel good about yourself and are ready to take on the world.
  2. You are in a good mood every time you pass your reflection.
  3. You become more productive.
  4. You make more friends and people want to be around you more.
  5. You set a high standard for what it means to look good.
  6. You inspire others to dress.
  7. You show how much you care when you present yourself well.
  8. People will expect more positive things to come from you.
  9. You elevate the experience wherever you are.
  10. You get presented with more opportunities.

Dressing up does not have to be complicated, as a matter of fact, I always say simpler is better! Look at the photos above. The women look timeless in these classic silhouettes, timeless colours that are easy on the eyes and look like the epitome of polished and put together. They can be taken seriously at work, be trusted with more socially, and wearing bright colours that make them more inviting.

There is something truly powerful in dressing well and expressing ourselves simply in the way we dress everyday. If you are the type of person who wants to put on a ballgown everyday, do it! If you are at home and are obsessed with a handful of dresses, wear them! Nobody is stopping you and you should appreciate your clothes. You picked and saved up for them after all. I dread that feeling when I have beautiful clothes that i have not yet worn, because the occasion was cancel. Everyday is an occasion, so dress accordingly!
