Being a lady is being polite.
Not the deceitful dissimulation of not saying what one truly means to avoid hurting someone’s feelings.
But the true kindness of heart.
Those possessing true kindness will never be rude.
Kindness transcends time, cultures and even species. This fact shows how powerful this concept is and how far it can take you.

“They may not enter a crowded saloon gracefully; they may be entirely ignorant of the forms of good society; they may be awkward at table, ungrammatical in speech; but they will never be heard speaking so as to wound the feelings of another; they will never be seen making others uncomfortable by seeking solely for their own personal convenience; they will always endeavour to set everyone around them at ease; they will be self-sacrificing, friendly, unselfish; truly in one word and deed, polite.”
The Ladies’ Book of Etiquette and Manual of Politeness by Florence Hartley, 1860

I personally own this book and aside from the dated verbiage, it stands the test of time in general terms. I checked when it was published and it was in 1860 — no joke. The time of the Gibson Girls after the first Industrial Revolution. We are currently in the fourth industrial revolution and the tools mentioned in this read are still applicable today.
A lot of people think etiquette is affectation and superiority when it is truly the opposite. The first thing people miss and the only guideline to abide by when it comes to etiquette: be kind. Exceptionally so! With passion, patience and immediate forgiveness for others who do not realise they are coming off and offensive.
“A gentleman is one who never hurts anyone’s feelings unintentionally.”
Oscar Wilde
Being a lady is graciousness with maximum effort. When you practice this so regularly, it becomes your lifestyle and is a second skin. Kindness does not come naturally, so creating a habit benefits you and everyone around you. It’s the opposite of smoking cigarettes haha.

The way we communicate is so powerful that it can change a person’s life. When someone is kind to you on an off day, it permeates to the next person you speak with. You think things are not as bad as they seem and it gives you hope to pervade more of this brilliant feeling.
I challenge you to be extra kind and patient with anyone you come in contact with all week long. Take that extra breath and spread positivity by treating people well.
