Mobile phones are the bane of my existence at times. It ironically creates a barrier for communication. The rule for when to have them out when speaking with someone is simple: Do not have your phone out at all. If you are expecting a call, let the person(s) you are with know right away. When you see someone with their phone out at a social gathering, do this.
