You are already so articulate and classy — you just do not even know it! It is all a matter of controlling our language to be better and get in the habit of not cursing. Sometimes we are doing too much and need to reel it in to realize what less we can do.

Removing slang from our vocabulary in general is optimal, because profanity is slang. The reason being is it is not specific enough. Language is already more than colourful with grammar to master, idioms, and local expressions we can utilise. The issue is replacing these words with more powerful terms to brighten our sentences.

For instance, do you ever notice that when someone insults you with a general curse, you do not feel that phased? It is because it is not that specific enough. Slang is not specific. Where if someone called you ‘irresponsible’ or ‘insolent’ or ‘demented’ (you see where I’m going here), it hurts so much more! This is because they are nailing on the head something we might feel sensitive about. Whether it is something we have been told over and over throughout the years or something we know we have to work on ourselves, it is hard to hear from others.

Let’s flip it. The same goes for compliments. When compliments are so specific, we remember them forever. ‘I remember one time someone said I look like Scarlett Johansson,’ is something someone told me. I looked at this person and it never escaped my mind, because it was so true! It stuck with me since and the compliment was not even told to me, yet the more specific we are about ideas, the better they have a chance of remaining in our memory.

It makes an impact when we speak well, so we have to remember to not take it for granted, have a sense of pride when we speak and take our vocabulary to the next level by lifting up those around us with fantastic language.
