We live in the fourth industrial revolution. It is the information age where everything moves so fast. We text and google. There is no more sitting down to chat. Information comes and goes in the blink of an eye.

If you do this one thing, I guarantee you will weed out the high quality people in your life. The ones who sit down and listen and lean in. They will be captivated with your every word and give you their full attention.

Take all the time in the world when you speak.

I myself struggle with this, because I am really high strung, and think 100 miles per hour. I am like Ben Shapiro talking so fast, over 150 words per minute. The average person speaks 120-140 words per minute. I am told this all the time.

Slowing down also makes you more mindful, pay attention to your thoughts, instead of spewing out what people do not need to hear. If you are rambling saying all your thoughts, nobody will take anything you say seriously. People will know you think out loud and have nothing meaningful to say.

If you want people to lean in when you speak, talk less. Take the time to think about what you are going to say. And always have something clever prepared before going into any situation no matter. Do not ramble. Do not fumble. Know what you are going to say. Know your subject matter.

Take a second to gather your thoughts, before speaking. Do not just talk to hear your own voice. It is more attractive and garners respect when you have something important to say and choose only the thoughts that have value germane to your dialogue.
