There are a thousand things right with this haul and I am so excited to share with you my steals! The Givenchy jacket was $92 and the Dior jacket was less than $200. Not so surprisingly, the Smythe jacket was the most expensive purchase within this haul, however it was still at a steal of $399 considering it was in pretty much new condition. This rifle patch jackets normally retails at $795 on their website and even more on other hosting platforms trying to make a buck.

The reason I got these items were because I needed wool coats for my move across the nation to the countryside. It’s a new life and I need a new wardrobe! Literally the first thing I thought of when moving was ‘How will I stay warm? What will I wear? What are the seasons?’ My husband laughed at the idea, but I am definitely obsessed with this precious finds from my favourite luxury authenticating website and app.
I have found items from my Hermes haul on this app. New items authenticating by experienced experts that were new with tags, totally unused without scratches from people who had so many leftover luxury pieces. Ahh the life. I used to live that life. Sizing down and minimising how much time and effort that goes into my morning toilette and glam has benefitted me tremendously. That is why it is imperative to get high quality items that lasts forever as this Dior jacket does/did?

Though these items lived a past life, I have more history and appreciation for these new (to me) garments. They tell stories of the individual who owned them and past iconography of creative directors’ dreams. Now I get to give them a third life. This Dior blazer is a well-known silhouette and design that I get to be a part of. Woohoo! It is my equestrian jacket, though it does not have the riding tails or hem. It has the field jacket countryside feel I am looking for along with the warmth of its green and muted grey herringbone. Oh, the velvet collar! It managed to keep in tact after all this time too.
About 70-80 years of memories is what I carry in this jacket. I also give it my version of living to its fullest capacity. There are loops in the twill, but I really do not mind. This is my everyday jacket at home running errands around my countryside compound. I can see myself picking up hose pipes, assessing the garden and farmland, saying hello to my horses, and going for an early morning saunter. In Dior. This old thing? Literally haha.

Next is my Givenchy jacket. This and the Dior masterpiece were from French owners in France. The only caveat I have about Vestiaire Collective is the time it takes to get to you. It took a bit of time for the processing to go through. It takes your payment — of course it does — right away, however shipping lays idle considering the intricacies of French retail service and commercial culture. I gave grace and laxed my typical American-out-the-door same-day-shipping mentality for my own personal Poshmark account.
I needed something that was city slicker smart, dark, and ready for stains. This is the jacket I can do anything in. Meeting? Check. Pick up the kids? Check. Random rain storm stains? Check. However, I am going to need to upgrade the buttons, because these are scratched and look like old m&ms in black that had paint peeled off. I am thinking pearl and gold buttons. What are your thoughts on the type of buttons I should use? Let me know your replacement ideas in the comments below.
The reason I want to exchange these damaged goods with pearl and gold buttons is because gold or brass buttons look like I am trying really hard to be formal and dressed up. Also, everyone and their mom uses gold and black as a predictable combination. Pearls with a metal are dainty, feminine, and look more customised. I found some used Givenchy buttons that were incredible, but sold out almost immediately. The ones leftover for sale online look sad.

It does not have a peplum, but the silhouette has a flare before the hem giving the sense of a waist. I am so utterly grateful for this, because so many smart lady’s jackets have a tendency to box you giving you a masculine and disappearing shapely figure. The trim is also a firm statement of black on black with the sturdy appeal of an excellent quality jacket I am willing to wear everyday. It is my throw-on smart jacket for darker times, i.e. funerals. Black is a bit severe and makes me look orange. This aggressive hue is reserved for significant occasions.
The final jacket and penultimate piece in this haul is my Smythe rifle patch equestrian blazer. Elegant. Useful. One of my favourite colours! Those are the words that come to mind when others iterated their appreciation for the coat. You can do so much with this. Yes, it is definitely a countryside staple. Blue — whatever tone of it — is perfectly permissible in both the city and in the sticks. It is like green.
I do not plan for this to be my hunting jacket, but my riding jacket. It is so warm, feels heavy when you put it on, but not backbreaking as my long white winter coat does. It has a beautiful herringbone and chevron detail when you look close up. I can style this in so many ways. It makes my complexion glow. It matches everything in my closet that I wear day to day. There is no going wrong with this intelligent wool and leather winter veneer. Target shooting never looked so chic!
There are not enough words to express my love for this North American brand. It makes me want to go to Canada and clean out their warehouse of all the coats. I cannot wait to shop more Smythe. Every time they come out with a new style it is a legendary fixture in my wardrobe. Especially now that I am a property and soon to be landowner in the American Frontier, I have more reason to don such refined design!
Now for the last piece in this haul. The Ralph Lauren executive shirt. It is 100% cotton and reminded me of the Penelope Cruz ad from years ago she did with the American brand. I also happen to wear executive shirts to work and have a collection of them. This fit very well, aside from the fact that the person who owned this prior did not take care of the material very well. I can see that this shirt was exposed to high heat drying, sitting in the laundry for how long with canary yellow sweat stains, and it was a little crunchy looking. Nothing a little steam and hand wash cannot fix. I love hand washing my items whether they are silk, cashmere, cotton, or wool. I have videos on how to hand wash them here with maintenance care guides that are easy to follow.
This is definitely a shirt I want to keep forever. Along with everything else in this secondhand luxury haul from Vestiaiare Collective. Shirts are very important to me. It is something I wear everyday. It is my go-to for anything casual to formal, and people take me seriously when I am dressed appropriately. A good shirt is a necessity. Personally, I do not mind all these little obstacles, because I can simply have the collar and cuffs replaced by a good tailor. I love the shirt notwithstanding what to me seems to be minute discretions of the previous owner. Classic. Timeless. Well-made. I will love this shirt nevertheless.
