It’s not the fact that they’re $2,000. It’s not the fact that they’re Hermes. It’s the fact that they will last me forever. The leather is already molding to the form of my foot. The mobility I have in them is also unlike any other shoe I have ever owned before. I have never been so comfortable yet stylish wearing a pair of shoes. These go with absolutely everything in my wardrobe. They fit into my lifestyle seamlessly.
I am really lucky considering I have everything I need. This is because I made my luck working very hard doing things that others never thought of trying. Now I want to reward myself by getting rid of all my low quality garments and streamlining my closet!
It’s the luxurious thing to do after all. Living in outfits you will always wear. Having what you need and want all in one. Owning less. No more burdens of wondering how shopping more will damage your breathing. No more wondering what to wear, because they are too many options. Being unhappy – as it has psychologically been studied that the more choices you have, the unhappier you become.
These are things I want to say when people ask me about my outfit:
‘I’ve had this for years.’
‘This is my favourite sweater. But I also have it in other colours.’
‘I’m going to pass this down to my daughter.’
‘It’s always in style.’
‘It goes with everything in my closet.’
‘Finally! Something that suits my body shape perfectly.’
‘It’s Diane von Furstenberg.’
‘I got it on Jermyn Street.’
Haha. The last two are things I already say! But you get the idea.
My dream shoes
There are only a few pairs. Why start with shoes? It finishes your outfit. If you ever see a feature film or show where the camera pans down, but doesn’t show the shoes — you don’t. They always show. the shoes. You need to see the shoes otherwise the outfit isn’t showing on screen at all.
I need one for outdoors gardening and going to and from the house. How about I simply create a list.
Outdoor boots for hiking
outdoor boots for gardening
flip flops for inside and outside the house quickly – the garage, getting the mail
dressed up knee high boots to keep warm on a night in the town
some type of flat – mule loafer style or ballet flats – for the city, seeing clients, easy on flights
a neutral satin pump that goes from evening to night
There is only one dress you will ever need: the wrap dress. You can style it as an evening gown if it is maxi length with long sleeves. It can be sleeveless and short in the summer.
Workout clothes. I workout everyday.
Seamless nude underwear. Check. This includes an array of stick-on bras. Pajamas in any breathable and lightweight material.
White jeans or white knit flare trousers. Comfy knit trousers day to day, because they are dressed up and go with everything. White jeans for colder climates.
Cashmere cardigans for day to day casual. Satin silk camisoles underneath in cooler weather, alone on a hot day.
Satin blouses for work, for parent meetings, or being dressed a bit formally in public.
One good light suit. One fabulous dark suit.
A tailored light coat to stand out in dreary weather and lift up my spirits. A good puffer for unpredictable winters.
I do not need anything more! Jewellery and watches are optional. As long as they are not too many allows and more substantially a high precious metal, then that is perfectly admissible.
After donating 16 bags worth of party dresses and trendy clothes I never wear, I feel like I paid off a debt haha. It was weighing on my conscience so badly for such a long time and my soul was taking the toll. What do I do with all of these clothes that I don’t have any events to wear to? It’s not good for you. to have so much clutter. I will be the first to say it. No matter how cute the items were, I didn’t feel attached, because they were cheap, only for specific events, and I didn’t work hard to earn them, so they were even more disposable to me.
When I see a particularly lovely bag online or in the display at the store, I dream about it for a long time, and really make a wise decision if it will suit me in the long run, because it’s not as easily accessible. I think about the purchase with a sound mind, because it’s not something I can or want to get rid of.
In all my hauls now, I have been making slower, smaller purchases, rather than a giant order of so many purchases. It has been bothering me for a long time now. Also, I do not want to look like a person who spends a lot of money. I rather have that money in the bank where I can use it for more important things like being able to fly off this planet one day on my family-size rocket. Just kidding.
