Be certain to fill up the sink with cold water and watch for water displacement so there is no overflow when you insert the items into the water.
You can wash silk garments one by one at first lightest to darkest to see if it bleeds out dye. I wash my silk all the time and there is no running hue, so I can wash clothes together. I like to keep it neat by washing all the similar colors together light to medium to dark.

Make sure you get your clothes soaked entirely. You will need to work it in with your hands manually. Keep an eye out for little stains around the collar and cuffs where stains are easy to develop. You can use a toothbrush or even gentler clothing brush with some supplies I will have linked below along with all the tools in this video in the description. Then let it sit for 30 minutes before hand washing.
I use The Delicate Wash by The Laundress. I’ll have it linked so below also. You can use it for anything that says ‘dry clean only’. These are usually going to be your silks, synthetics, or clothing with beading embellishments. I personally use this as you’ll see in this video.
- Soak your garment.
- Add one squirt of The Delicate Wash.
- Work the soap into the water like a bubble bath.
- Work the soap into the garment.
- Let it sit for 30 minutes.
- Rinse the garment out with cold water.
- Press the water out – never wring.
- Hang it to dry.
- Steam to finish.
