People think less of you when you do this. Stop this.

You’re doing this annoying thing that nobody wants to witness from anyone. People also do not want to be known for this. Stop complaining. You think less of you when you do this. Subscribe for The Glow Up weekly newsletter and never miss a single post!

Nobody wants to hear about how bad you have it. Everyone has problems. Nobody wants to hear yours. You also do not know if those around you are dealing with something worse.

My husband was in the RAF and he told me how they would march for days across Belgium and the Netherlands. Everyone’s feet hurt and were bleeding from their boots. There was one guy who was whining about the pain he was in. The commanding officer who looked at him and said, ‘Don’t you think we all feel this? You are the only one complaining about it.’ That stuck with me forever.

Buck up. Control yourself where you can. Emotional control is the most powerful thing you have. If you lead with a smile, people think you are weak, but the truth is the strongest people smile. They can relax. Those who smile have seen it all and choose to smile, because they know the situation will not only be better, but that they can get through anything.

Those who drag their face on the ground with negativity and low self esteem are not going to get very far. Have some stiff upper lip, step over the groveling people, and carry on with your life.

All the things that make a great lady or gentleman are all the things that make an excellent leader and individual who stands out. Strong people do not protest too much. Strong people do not mouth off. They do not complain. They are certain of themselves and do not bring others down with their weakness.

You have to change your mindset to ask the right questions as, ‘What’s on the other side of that door?’ ‘What is going to happen once I achieve my goal?’ Focus on the highlights of your journey and know that an arrow has a lot of pressure on it when it’s pulled back before launching into something great.

“Perhaps the best example of stiff upper lip is that of English cavalry officer Captain Lawrence Oates. One of the members of Captain Scott’s ill fated 1912 expedition to the South Pole. Oates was terribly frost bitten and suffering from gangrene. He was unable to go on and knew that he would slow the rest of the expedition down, preventing them from getting back to their basecamp. Oates choose to just walk out into the blizzard and die with the words, ‘I am just going outside and may be some time.'”

My husband says something when I make even the slightest of complains, and I think this is a great point to make. It’s unbecoming to be ungrateful. When on dates with guys years ago, I lost a lot of respect for them when they would complain about their situation. Especially when I have personally been through something much worse they did not know about.

Be great. Think great. Speak great. Lift your thoughts, lift your words, spirit and actions. Nobody sees your pain. All they see is a strong, positive person.
