Mistakes Preventing You From Growing Your Instagram

And how to prevent them

“Gia, I can’t grow on Instagram.”

Oh gosh if only I had a dollar every time I heard that one…

Seriously though! Don’t get me wrong, growing on Instagram isn’t easy, but it’s not impossible.

BUT, I’ll tell you right now that what is a waste of your time (if your goal is to grow on IG) is:

  • Joining comment pods,
  • Loop giveaways,
  • Commenting on the top 9 posts in 10 niched hashtags (old technique)
  • Trying to figure out why hashtags aren’t working for you.

In the grand scheme of things, you’re much better off posting high-quality content consistently, and creating Reels.

But that’s not all.

There are loads of mistakes I see influencers making that I know are holding back their growth. Here are 3 of them for you to avoid:

1: You’re Focusing Too Much on Perfection

Gosh, I see so many creators get caught up in perfectionism when I KNOW they can be doing much more with their time. Look, I’m not telling you to throw away the quality of your content, but if you’re spending hours trying to make your feed perfectly curated in every way, you’re going to experience burnout.

Better use of your time would be to make some stories, talk to your audience (with engaging captions, stories, or lives), and just POST. With the year people had in 2020, your followers will likely be much for forgiving if your feed isn’t absolute perfection.

2: You’re Not Consistent

“Dani, do I have to post every day.” No, but the minimum I suggest posting on Instagram is 3x a week. If you can, post 3 to 5 story slides a day, so you’re at least top of mind with your followers. But here’s the thing: when you drop off the face of the earth for weeks or months on end, your audience isn’t going to connect with you as much, and you’re going to have a tough time reaching new followers.

That’s the truth!

If time management is becoming a problem for you, then I suggest trying BATCHING.
Batching is this magical technique where you focus hard on one kind of task. I talk more about this in the 10 Secrets Guide.

3: You’re Not Posting Images in a 4:5 Ratio

If you’re still posting a square or horizontal image, stop and re-crop! To get the most out of your content, start cropping your images with a 4:5 ratio! This is the maximum vertical length images on Instagram, and it’s much more eye appealing on your followers’ feeds!

A 4:5 takes up much more space and plays nice with the vertical platform IG is. I would say you can still post a square if you’re making graphics, but that’s about the only case where I’d do that.

Either way, tell me: are you currently making any of these mistakes? It’s not too late to adjust, so start fixing them!

And would ya look at that: you’re another step closer to becoming a full-time influencer.
